Secret Gardens of Sligo.
Secret gardens of Sligo is a new garden trail which gives the opportunity to peek into and get inspiration from gardens which would not have previously been open to visitors. On Sunday last Andy and I visited Sarah Brecht’s garden at The Mill, Dromore West, Co. Sligo.
The revelation of the old mill complete with mill-race and wheel is a real surprise after you’ve arrived via the narrow country lane.
Sarah had not done any gardening before she arrived in Ireland from New York 12 years ago. She has obviously taken to it like a duck to water.
The garden is set on various levels and features flower beds, vegetable and herb gardens.
The setting is unspoilt and natural and there is a view over Sligo Bay from the upper garden.
There are lots of scented roses and combined with the beautiful blue of catmint make a lovely contrast.
If the rest of the gardens are of the same standard they certainly deserve a visit over the course of the summer.
