Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata)
These chicks are in a nest at our neighbours ( Brian and Pauline ) house. Their parents built the nest in a trellis which is against a wall at B and P’s house. There are 5 chicks, and by the look of them it wont be long before they get ready to leave. The Spotted Flycatcher specializes in targetting flying insects from a vantage point on an open perch. Launching itself with a burst of rapid wingbeats. It seizes it’s quarry in mid-air and usually returns to the same perch: a technique that makes it quite distinctive despite it’s unremarkable grey-brown plumage.
